A great release out of a top-notch vintage. This is slightly dark and ashy with lots of black pepper spice, plum fruit and savoury edges. It’s medium bodied and has plenty of fruit but the wine is not bold but rather controlled in its delivery of flavour. It seems to successfully carry the Giaconda stamp in a very understated way. – Ches Cook, FWC.
A cool late ripening season has delivered a delicately spiced shiraz made with fruit sourced from the exceptional Warner Vineyard. Notes of cracked pepper, beetroot, red plums and olive tapenade. This wine is immediately appealing; the tannins are soft with perfectly balanced acidity that helps draw out the vibrant red fruit flavours. The 2017 is medium-bodied and already very approachable in its youth, hence the decision to release this under the Nantua label, though this will develop complex notes of sous-bois with a few years bottle age. Cellaring: 3-10 years.
