The rocky and steep Col Mountain vineyard is a fabulous site for this impressive variety. It delivers delicious fruit and site pure wine in a medium bodied style. The wine is made like our Pinot Noir, with wild yeast in open fermenters and handled quite gently. This is the sixth vintage we have made of Col Mountain Grenache and perhaps it is the most complex and intense yet. It's been a fun learning curve having faith in the site and timing of harvest with this variety. Leave it too\u003cbr\u003elong and it can become fruit sweet in an unpleasant way. Pick too early and the best red fruits and fine tannins will be missing. There's a point at what seems to be before really observable ripeness occurs when the grapes contain enough of the best things and that's the time to harvest.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAs is usual, the nose is beautifully fragrant with the usual raspberry and red cherry aromas. It is also savoury in a pippy way with a pretty floral lift and has a fresh, cool nature. The palate is vibrant, creamy, layered and gently grippy with the clean, grenache specific tannins giving a chalky, smooth, long finish.
