Dancer Beaune Les Montrenevots Rouge 1er Cru 2018
A high altitude, rocky site on the Pommard boundary, Les Montrevenots sits on the slope above Clos des Mouches. It’s a south-facing site, which mitigates the vine’s altitude. Dancer’s parcel was planted in 1996. The white marl, limestone-rich soils here—quite different from the greater clay components of Dancer’s other sites—tends to bring this red more perfume and structure, with an overall feel of prettiness and fleshy seduction, backed up by ripe tannins. Expect enticing flavours of Morello cherry, lavender and crushed blackberry with great tone and finesse. A fine, beautifully crafted Beaune 1er Cru built for pure drinking pleasure.
“A ripe and expressive nose is comprised by notes of soft spice and earth that combine with aromas of black cherry and raspberry. The delicious, energetic and juicy middle weight flavors possess a subtle bead of minerality that adds a sense of lift to the bitter pit fruit-inflected and mildly austere finish.” 89-91 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.
