100% Frappato grown in a biodynamic vineyard 230 metres above sea level in Vittoria, South-Eastern Sicily. The soil is predominantly siliceous red sands with plenty of limestone. Fermentation is kept simple - just large concrete tanks so that it is only the fruit doing the talking. Very aromatic with lively cherry, raspberry and floral aromas which lead to medium bodied lovely deep berry flavours. Elegant and nervy with fine tannins and fresh finish, there is real length to this wine, and a good dry finish. Has the feel of a wine from a much cooler climate due to the lifted aromatics and silky tannin. A great release. FWC.
There is striking purity and translucency to the fruit, which has an almost pinot like quality. Lifted red florals, fine tea leaf and a touch of green herbal (a bit like good cabernet franc) with a silky smooth palate that is all bright & fresh. As always, the Frappato seems to hover on the palate with a weightless, intriguing personality that is hard to fully describe with words. (only 11.5% alcohol is part way to the reason for the lightness) Even so the wine seems to build richness in the mouth & retains a crunchy acidity, that leaves a fresh, drying finish. Moreish & beguiling it will be great drinking over the next few years.
