Coates Pinot Noir 2019
We get sample bottles dropped in to us all the time. Quite often, wines are uninteresting or just plain terrible and we have a small taste and ‘gift’ the bottle to a passer-by. As is evident in the photo attached, this was certainly not the case with this wine – we drank the whole thing and immediately ordered a few dozen.
This is a fantastic new addition to our (already very strong) Pinot collection. It shows cranberry and dried strawberry up front with aperol-like flavours and a pomegranate crunch to the acidity. It’s very light-footed on the palate but has layers of flavour and a depth to the fruit. In the background lies wet soil, autumnal leaf and some savoury edges. It’s particularly easy drinking but something suggestes to me that this will age very nicely over the medium term, too (5-8 years). – Ches Cook, FWC.
