Andre Clouet Vintage 2009
2009 was a warm year in Champagne and this is evident as soon as you put the glass to your nose. It’s a wine of some richness, with ripe nectarine and other orchard fruit aromas lifting from the glass and also contributing to quite a generous mid palate. But where this wine excels is how its richness is controlled and how the power of the fruit is directed. The second half of the palate is classic Clouet: red fruit flavours appear and a firm line of acid kicks into gear bringing linearity to a wine that could otherwise appear soft and opulent. The acid is supported at the back by a dry chalkiness that rings true to many of the better wines of Champagne and really helps to balance the primary fruit seen up front. - Ches Cook, FWC.
