This is what Clemens humbly describes as his ‘village wine’ as it is drawn from multiple vineyards planted only on grey slate soils. These include some 80+ year old parcels all farmed to his exacting standards. Citrus, lime leaf, and green apple are all there but is the mouth puckering wet stone / river pebble minerality that demands attention. Just beautiful mineral tension. FWC.
“The 2017 Riesling Vom Grauen Schiefer is pure and flinty on the crunchy, elegant and aromatic nose that represents the gray slate part of the classified Marienburg. Bottled in September 2017, the palate is pretty intense, lush and well-balanced and reveals an intensely mineral and well-structured finish. 90+ Points.” Stephan Reinhardt 243, The Wine Advocate, Mar 2019.
