Clemens Busch Riesling ‘Marienberg’ 1er Grosses-Gewächs Rothenpfad 2017
Rothenpfad or ‘the red path’ refers to a section of the Marienberg vineyard which is on red slate (softer than grey or blue slate). These 85-year-old vines sit on just 80-90cm of topsoil and produce tiny bunches of great intensity. Soft ripe lime, touch of blackcurrant and white strawberry, gentle hint of ginger spice all appear in a softer wine where the power of the fruit cushions ripe acid and hints of mineral. FWC.
“From vines that are 80+ years old, the 2017 Pündericher Marienburg Riesling GG Rothenpfad is enormously deep and intense but pure and refined with beautiful aromas of herbs and crushed stones on the nose that come along like a perfume. Silky and round on the palate, this is a full-bodied, lush and refined yet concentrated and even powerful and persistent Riesling with great intensity and concentration on the long and stimulatingly salty-piquant finish. A great wine. 95 Points.” Stephan Reinhardt, Issue 243, The Wine Advocate, March 2019.
