Charles Melton Kirche Cabernet Shiraz 2017
It’s widely accepted that Charles Melton has the best Cabernet plantings in the Barossa and here the variety is used to create a classic Australian blend. This wine stood out in a recent tasting of the Melton new releases for its freshness and bright acidity. The two varieties play off each other well, with the wine having Cabernet like structure and tannin but with a fuller middle palate where the Shiraz brings plum, earth, woodspice and nutmeg. Already drinking well but certainly a wine that will reward some time in the cellar. – Ches Cook, FWC.
A 70/30 split that forms a rich, concentrated yet vibrant whole. Wafts of cassis and plums, fruit cake and baking spices. Full-bodied with determined tannins, neatly pitched and ready to cellar. Drink to 2035. 95 Points. Jane Faulkner, James Halliday's Wine Companion.
