Caillard Barossa Valley Mataro 2017
I really love this variety and this is one of the best examples in Australia; at a very good price. Ian Cook - FWC
Wine expert/author/educator Andrew Caillard MW and Bobby Caillard have been producing a tightly curated collection of wines over past years. The Caillards stick to high quality Barossa vineyard sources and invest intelligence in the winemaking process. The resulting wines have been great. Here’s the 2017 version of Mataro.
Rich, savoury red of medium weight, fine grip and general sense of vitality. Redolent of dark berries, char and potpourri with faint game meat notes wafting around. The palate is brighter than expected from that sweet earthy hit of perfume, lifted on blood orange acidity and cinched with a web of fine and firming, feathery tannins. It’s deeply flavoured yet filigreed and fresh. A succulent, delicious and classy red of strong regional character. A delight. Drink 2020-2030+, 95 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
