Bloodwood makes two chardonnays. The Schubert vineyard lies at approx.. 850m altitude on volcanoclastic loams over a friable red clay base. Schubert is the fuller bodied style with extended new French oak maturation and no malo-lactic.
Lots of white stone fruit, creamy cashew nut, lime and almond meal are suggestive of a full and round, ripe chardonnay. Lots of ripe stone fruit on palate entry with charred vanilla and fig. Then the grip tightens up with citrus, flint and a long, clean finish. The cool climate and the low alcohol (12.5%) are the perfect foil for the rich Bloodwood fruit. Highly recommended. Drink now or cellar 5-10 years. Ian Cook FWC.
