Bloodwood 'Maurice' 2018

You know its been a good vintage in Orange when a neatly packaged Maurice emerges. Only bottled in the finest years, Bloodwood's Maurice is generally framed around Cabernet Sauvignon with splashes of Cabernet Franc, Merlot Noir and Malbec thrown in for laughs. Awash with decadent cassis, chocolate and leafy notes, its a fully flavoured wine albeit contained in the most elegant of body. There's a great char, or smoke-like flavour that wraps itself around this generous core of primary fruit. This is great Sunday roast wine, and I can see this developing well with a bit of time in bottle. - Will Lennox, FWC
