Bellwether Chardonnay 2015
Tasmanian grapes, a staple since inception of the Bellwether brand of winemaker Sue Bell. After winning the Len Evans Tutorial some years ago, Sue has quietly been getting on with producing one of the best chardonnays in Australia.
We put the collective Five Way Cellars nose into this one late last week (Feb 2020) and POW – straight to Burgundy, or in Australian, straight to the Pool Room. Beautiful ripe yellow stone fruit, lemon butter, almond meal, cashew nut, yet with the fresh cut of cool climate chardonnay – vibrant acidity and crunch. The palate is all at once full, rich and expansive on the palate, yet bursting with energy and tension. The feel is full yet restrained by the acidity and relatively low alcohol (12.5%).
Awesome and our favourite chardonnay – especially at its price. Always released with some bottle age it is perfect for immediate consumption. Highly recommended. FWC
