“The Estate Pinot sees around 15% new extra tight grain, light toast oak barrels and is a selection of our finest barrels from Leongatha vineyard. Wine stays in barrel for 15 months. Bottled in August 2020.
“First sniff reveals a bowl of fresh, bright red berry fruit aromas, with delightful purity. With further time in the glass some deeper vinous characters appear. As a seamless poised palate lined with refined tannins on a silky textural mid palate finishing with fresh and clean flavours.” Bass Phillip.
Bass Phillip’s 2019 Estate pinot opens to an enchantingly redolent nose of strawberry compote, wild berry, rose petal and ever so feint hints of damp earth. This autumnal feel to the wine is balanced perfectly with touches of ripeness and an assertive, spice-laden finish. The palate is enveloping, drawing you into the wine much more effectively than the nose. Its red velvet in a glass – just oozing quality. There is an underlying vibrancy to the wine that is deftly interwoven with all these other elements, which only adds to this overall sense of luxury. I enjoyed this sample over an extended period of time and as the lovely spice elements became more prominent, I can only presume this effort will age gracefully. – Will Lennox, FWC
