Savoury, layered and much more of a textural experience when progressing from the Crown Prince. This is an effortless display of concentration with a light touch. Nothing to hide – a wine without makeup and without an unnecessary stamp from the winemaker (excessive oak, acid adjustment etc). Rather, on display is a wine of immense purity, unfiltered to give the drinker the truest expression of fruit from Bass Phillip’s old-vine estate in Gippsland. It’s loaded with fruit but this fruit is more savoury than sweet, while twig, forest floor and earth components only further enhance these savoury tones. History shows the wines are long lived and will only improve with time in the bottle. – Ches Cook, FWC.
