Ata Rangi Pinot Noir 2018
A richer vintage of Ata Rangi here. 35% new oak and 35% whole bunch. Plum and cherry, camphor, exotic spice and liquorice, a little dried rose perfume in the mix too. Bright and intense. Medium-bodied, plenty of flavour, rich dark fruit with orange peel and spice, firm almost tea-like tannin, moving to ripe strawberries with pepper on a long perfumed, slightly bitter radicchio finish. I like this bit of extra tannin activity in 2018. Good stuff. Drink 2022 - 2028+. 95 Points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
This legendary label gives a nod in the direction of Burgundy with bright, high energy floral/violet, cherry, fresh herb, star anise and restrained spicy oak supported by fine tannins and juicy acidity. A little lighter than usual, it’s a wonderfully fragrant, supple wine. Drink now - 8 years. Bob Campbell MW, Gourmet Traveller Wine, Oct/Nov 2020
