Single vineyard 80 year old bush vine Grenache from the Blewitt Springs sub region of McLaren Vale. Fresh vibrancy and vivacity is the hallmark of this wine. Bright juicy red berry characters dance through the palate and soft tannins provide a good structure and mouthfeel. Fruit was de-stemmed with whole berries remaining intact and fermented to dryness. Free-run juice was then transferred from the ferment to a single 500L neutral French puncheon where it matured for 9 months prior to bottling in December 2018. Unfined & unfiltered. 2018 is a warmer vintage than 2017 (a wine that blew us away with it’s outstanding quality.) Medium ruby red color, aromatic spiced cherry and raspberry, earth and brown spices, with more depth and weight than the 2017 had. A deliciously soft palate of red fruits with chalky fine lingering tannins. Fresh bright acidity to close. This is exceptional grenache. One would think it came from a much cooler region. Drink slightly chilled. - Ian Cook, Five Way Cellars.
