Alkina 'Old Quarter' GSM 2019
Pretty serious stuff here. Yet again, this wine manages to show a lot of freshness and a sense of lightness on the palate, despite its large frame and it concentration of ripe fruit. Some of this has come from the use of whole bunch fermentation, which adds a dimension of spicy black fruit, combined with burly, chewy tannins. There’s a ripple of minerality too, which I am sure will only excite the Alkina team as they strive to find the best micro-terroirs across the Barossa. 50% Grenache,, 29% Shiraz, 21% Mataro. Certified biodynamic. All estate-owned fruit. – Ches Cook, FWC.
