Alkina 'Kin' Grenache 2023
While Blewitt Springs continues to assert itself as the spiritual home of high quality Australian Grenache, let’s not forget about the Barossa. Vine age here in the oldest sites rivals that of McLaren Vale and the quality coming from producers such as Alkina is spectacular. For an entry level wine, ‘Kin’ excels, providing red berry flavours with savoury tones throughout, reminiscent of Provencal herb and garrigue. It’s medium bodied at most and so effortless across the palate that its ‘drinkability’ is unmatched. Serve with a slight chill in summer for the ultimate all-rounder modern Australian red. – Ches Cook, FWC
The heart is sweet but it’s all savoury from there. Indeed such is the array that it’s hard to know where to start: sweet plum, red licorice and boysenberry move quickly towards saltbush, woodsy spice, potpourri and sweet earth. It’s juicy and lacy at once, the finish beautifully composed, the carry of the finish satisfying and then some. Drink 2023-2028. 92 Points. Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
