Adrian Rodda makes three Chardonnays and considering the size of our store, we usually pick one to stock, despite liking them all. This year the Beechworth Chardonnay stood out as our pick of the wines. Fruit is taken from a vineyard that sits at 550m above sea level where acidity is easily retained due to the cool climate. This has everything we loved in top-end Beechworth Chardonnay: orchard fruit, whiter fleshed peach and nectarine, quite a bit of phenolic grip to the mid-palate and a slight chalkiness to the finish. It has notable expanse across the palate, really asserting itself and its flavours upon you. It’s quite a serious wine that is only just setting out in its path towards development. – Ches Cook, FWC.
