Giaconda Chardonnay 2016
This 2016 release yet again reinforces Giaconda as the best producer of Chardonnay in Australia. The nose is immediately enticing and seductive: wood smoke, struck match, nougat, vanilla, white peach, and that ferrous character you often see in this wine. The palate is rich but impeccably balanced. There is plenty of stone fruit, but the more savoury elements of meal, oat and nut are more prominent. It is texturally very fine but also very present on the palate with huge amounts of concentration which lasts and lasts and lasts. It is almost a type of rocky minerality or a taste/sensation of earth and granite that comes through beneath the primary fruit that makes the wine so intriguing and complex to a level very rarely seen in Australian Chardonnay. Drink now or cellar for a decade. – Ches Cook, FWC.
