Weinbach RB0 Riesling 2020
No added sulphites.
Biodynamic in conversion. RBØ stands for Riesling Butte Zero Input after the name of the lieu-dit of Grand Cru Mambourg, La Butte du Calvaire (the Calvary Hill). Weinbach’s parcel—currently in biodynamic conversion—is located on the south-eastern tip of the Grand Cru where the marl, limestone and sandstone soils, and the southeast-facing slope combine to produce powerful Rieslings with broad acidity and great aromatic complexity. The winemaking just about mirrors that of the RWØ cuvée: fruit was whole-bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel with zero additions, then bottled after eight months on lees.
Expect an explosive and pulpy-textured Riesling loaded with exuberant flavours of ripe quince, yellow plum, orange blossom and wet rock, enveloped by tight phenolics and gum-smacking intensity. Punchy, pithy acidity drives across the palate providing the electricity and verve, and the finish ripples with length and freshness. Grand Cru vin nature! It is a textural delight—no, it is a delight full stop!
