Frankland Estate Olmo's Reward 2018
Always a very elegant wine and only made in high-quality vintages. I still recall the fabulous 2004 vintage that was drinking superbly at the ten year mark. This wine, the 2018 release, shows the best aspects of the region and the dominant grape variety (Cabernet Franc). Medium bodied, blue-fruited and slightly tight at this young age with graphite, pencil shavings, black pepper and olive tapenade. Lightly grippy throughout with a pleasantly drying finish. Malbec and Merlot proving supporting roles and help to fill-out the mid-palate. Drink or cellar. – Ches Cook, FWC.
Tickle me Olmo! Here’s a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec. Pretty smelling wine with redcurrant jelly, blackcurrant, flowers, sweet tobacco, cedar and spice. Medium-bodied, succulent yet savoury too, with firm chocolaty tannin, fresh and lively, a little bit of mint in here, but also the perfume of rosehip. Finish is long with a slick of slate-like tannin. Different. Expressive. And very lovely. Drink 2022-2030+. 94+ Points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
